disavow-links

Google Panda and Penguin updates are a major nightmare for the link spammers and black hat seo people out there. These algorithm updates targets sites which has low quality content and back links pointing to your site. However this can be a major drawback for the quality sites too because, spam links are a thing which you can never avoid. I know this with my experience and personally I never do link building for my own sites. I believe that the quality content is the key and back links will come automagically if you have good content because people will link and share my posts on their web sites and such.

But what to do for the spammy back links you automatically receive?

spam-links

See above, This is the link profile for this blog. And as you can see one website got 10331 links to my blog. How is this even possible? I don’t even know! Google normally tells us to contact the webmasters of those sites and request to remove the links. But trust me 70% of people that you contact won’t even care. And most of others will ask you money to remove the links.

Google now has a solution for this and its called “Disavow Links”  You can use this tool to remove these spam links from your site. Actually it means that Google wont consider those links when they calculate the ranks of your web site.

Its very easy to use. You just have to prepare a .txt doc with the websites or links that you want to get removed. First you need to find the links that you want to remove. You can do this by

On the Webmaster Tools home page, click the site you want.
On the Dashboard, click Traffic, and then click Links to Your Site.
Under Who links the most, click More.
Click Download more sample links. If you click Download latest links, you'll see dates as well.

Now you can make the .txt file by mentioning which links that you want to get disavowed.  Like this

# asked for link removal but got no response
domain:XXXXXXX.com
domain:XXXXX.lk

and submit it to the Google. Like they have mentioned there, changes will reflect soon and submitted links will be disavowed.
