Are you working on Arduino on your Ubuntu environment? If you are using it for the first time you might get face a problem that, Ubuntu doesn’t detect your Arduino board and you cant select the serial port by going to Tools -> serial Port because serial port is grayed out.

Fixing this is easy. This happens because Ubuntu doesn’t give root permissions to the Arduino IDE by default so it cant access the serial connections.

Easiest way is opening up terminal and type in
sudo arduino

Ever heard about Ksplice? Its a great addon to install Linux kernel updates and patches without rebooting the system. Ksplice is a gem for people who run servers because they can install critical updates without rebooting the host. Well if you are used to run latest kernels from the sources, thanks to recent security issues and rapid updates of linux kernel you will need lot of reboots if not for a thing like ksplice. Unfortunately ksplice is purchased by oracle and now it isn’t free anymore.

However Ksplice is still free for use on Ubuntu desktop. Well you might ask why a desktop user might want to go re-bootless on a desktop or laptop. Well just because we can 🙂 Or you might find many other uses such as file servers or maybe even web servers running on Ubuntu desktop  version.

simcity

EA launched Simcity last Tuesday and its been a mess until now. See the screenshot above, everyone is complaining that they cant play the game due to server problems on EA’s side. Days have passed and biggest game company on the world still cant figure out a way to fix the problems. 24 hours is acceptable, 48 hours? Okay! But now 5 days have passed and still there is no fix. As a result of that Amazon now stopped selling the game and started refunding the refugees.
SimCity requires the players to be online all the time as a DRM ( Digital Rights Management ) solution, because then they can iron out the  game pirates from using cracked versions of SimCity.  While this sounds good for EA it can be really annoying for the players because of many reasons

How to get Skype premium for free

by Ruchira on March 7, 2013

skype-premium-free

Skype is great I use it everyday, and there is Skype premium which is greater but comes at a cost. If you have relatives, friends or some special one that you wanna talk to, on those Skype premium supported countries, there wont be anything that will beat Skype’s pricing for landline and mobile calls.  Skype premium is not only about free calls, it also enables group video calls and group screen sharing features.

Best ROM for Galaxy SIII

by Ruchira on March 2, 2013

omega rom

I have owned Galaxy SIII for about 8 months now. And as a advanced user I like to change my Rom periodically not just because things get boring quickly for me but also to try out different and exciting things which can be done on my device. Speaking of my previous devices I had Galaxy SII and Galaxy S. Those days Touchwiz was crap and it was nothing more than a skin. I have flashed a custom ROM just after 2 hours when I got my SII just because I hated touchwizz.

by Ruchira on February 28, 2013

cpanel logo

cPanel Inc. issued a statement asking users who contacted cPanel support service within past months to change their root passwords immediately. This is because one of their support system server was compromised and user submitted server login data are probably stolen.  Here is the official email

Subject: Important Security Alert (Action Required)

Salutations,

You are receiving this email because you have opened a ticket with our support staff in the last 6 months. cPanel, Inc. has discovered that one of the servers we utilize in the technical support department has been compromised. While we do not know if your machine is affected, you should change your root level password if you are not already using ssh keys. If you are using an unprivileged account with “sudo” or “su” for root logins, we recommend you change the account password. Even if you are using ssh keys we still recommend rotating keys on a regular basis.

As we do not know the exact nature of this compromise we are asking for customers to take immediate action on their own servers. cPanel’s security team is continuing to investigate the nature of this security issue.

–cPanel Security Team
