Interesting Video: See how power surges in Britain caused by people making tea

Today I have stumbled upon an interesting video by BBC showing how the power distribution engineers handle the sudden  loads on Britains national power grid.  This sudden surge happens because of millions of people rushes to boil their kettles to make tea after watching popular TV soap opera “Eastenders” and this phenomena is called TV pickup on UK.  Click the thumbnail below to watch the video by BBC

It’s amusing that Engineers have to keep eye on the TV program everyday to find out when the program ends, and bring up the additional power plants online to keep up with the demand 🙂
